PM's misplaced priorities continue to draw flak

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's pledge to "strengthen" the US economy during his White House visit has continued to draw criticism at home.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Najib's pledge that the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) would invest between US$3 billion to US$4 billion in US "infrastructure redevelopment" begs the question: Why isn't the money being invested at home?
"Why isn't EPF investing in local infrastructures, such as a highway connecting Kota Bharu to Kuala Lumpur through Gua Musang?" Tuan Ibrahim asked in a statement today.
On Najib's pledge that Khazanah would invest more money in Silicon Valley, Tuan Ibrahim asked why this was the case when public universities are facing budget cuts back home.
"Wouldn’t it be better to give Malaysians the opportunity to establish tech companies at home?" he asked.
Tuan Ibrahim urged those who will receive Najib upon his return on Friday to pose these questions to him.
Najib is scheduled to touch down at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 7.45pm tomorrow. It is understood that efforts are underway to mobilise members of BN component parties for the welcome party.
Funding for cops?
Similarly, Selangor legislative assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh cited how Putrajaya had once admitted that it did not have funds to install CCTVs in police stations.
"Now you want to invest billions to strengthen America's economy? First, strengthen our Home Ministry. Stop using shop lots and terrace houses as police stations.

"Build proper facilities for our security men. Equip with proper CCTV. Buy proper computers and printers so that lodging police reports can be faster," said Yeoh, who is also the Subang Jaya assemblyperson.
She said Najib's pledge to "strengthen" the US economy at a time when Putrajaya is short of funds was a display of "hypocrisy".
"It is absolutely outrageous for the prime minister to have such misplaced priorities. If this doesn't get you out to vote against BN, I don't know what will.
"Malaysians deserve better leadership," Yeoh said on her Facebook page today. - Mkini
