BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan disagrees with the staging of political coups.
Furthermore, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said there is no reason to resort to such actions at this point.
"I don't agree with political coups. And there is no reason for a political coup so near to the end of the current term," he told Malaysiakini in a text message.
Speculation of a possible coup in Selangor came in the wake of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's much-hyped special press conference over the weekend.
The presser, however, turned out to be anti-climatic when Najib only announced that former Selangor menteri besar Muhammad Muhammad Taib's return to Umno.
This fueled speculation that Najib was supposed to announce more defections which would have allowed him to topple the current PKR-led Selangor government.
Yesterday, Umno information chief Annuar Musa claimed that more Pakatan Harapan politicians would be following in Muhammad's footsteps.
Muhammad had quit Umno to join PAS and later PKR.
Asked if BN's efforts would be better spent campaigning rather than securing defections, Rahman said: "There is no attempt to secure defections."
Yesterday, Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali brushed aside talks about possible defections among the state assemblypersons.
PKR vice-president Tian Chua also denied the speculation, claiming that the current state government is stable.- Mkini
