Lim Kit Siang's actions in the past demonstrate that DAP is the de facto leader of the opposition, said Communication and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.
In a blog post today, he said in 1990, it was DAP that decided to enter into an opposition alliance with Semangat 46 but not with PAS.
“In 1999, it was again DAP that decided to enter into an opposition alliance with PAS but in 2001 DAP divorced from the alliance and went solo.
“Then came the 2008 general election when DAP once again announced the formation of Pakatan Rakyat and after the 2013 general election announced Pakatan Rakyat no longer exists,” he added.
Though the parties were to work on the basis of consensus, Salleh claimed that it was Lim who made all the decisions and announcements.
“Since 1990 until now Lim has demonstrated that DAP calls the shots and they decide what happens even though they claim everyone in the opposition coalition are equal partners.
“However, Lim's actions over the last 30 years or so have shown that only what DAP wants matters and if anyone does not follow what DAP wants they will get kicked out,” he said.
Salleh said with DAP holding the majority of seats compared to other opposition parties, it is the party which dictates what happens.
He claimed that DAP's partnership with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is to give Pakatan Harapan, the successor of Pakatan Rakyat, a Malay face to present to the Malay electorate.
According to the minister, Harapan's chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad is merely a front to win Malay votes and is being presented as the so-called leader of the opposition.
However, he said the former premier has no power to decide what happens even on matters such as seats.
“DAP has always called the shots and decides what happens,” he added.- Mkini
