In English literature, the Fool or the Jester is an important character.
Not only does he provide comic relief, but because of his supposed simple mindedness he is able to say things to the King that others may not.
Due to his “foolishness”, words that may be deemed impertinent in other courtiers are excusable if they come from the Fool.
After all, he is simple minded, he can’t be blamed for being rude occasionally.
However, this privilege has important consequences for sometimes it is through his ramblings that the Fool can get across good advice to the King, advice which may be bitter to swallow (hence no one else says it) but necessary.
The Fool therefore can prove to be a very wise advisor, indeed.
Which makes me wonder who are the “Fools” advising the Prime Minister. Because if they exist they do not show any wisdom and instead are full of folly.
Seriously, what was that trip to the US about? Making a trip to see perhaps the most unpopular American President in history just for a photo op seems a waste of time and effort.
Add to this the ludicrous proposition that a tiny little country like ours can help rebuild America with a GDP multiple times larger than ours is deluded and ludicrous. It has made us a laughing stock.
Apparently the PM has also enlightened the US president about the horrific situation in Myanmar.
Really? Trump may not be the smartest person on the planet, but do we really think that he does not have advisors to appraise him about the situation in Southeast Asia and he needs a little PM to tell him about it?
Furthermore, so what? Does the PM honestly think he can influence US foreign policy?
Perhaps, the PM and his advisors think that by rubbing shoulders with the most powerful person on the planet will make him look good. I suppose to the gullible this may be true.
Perhaps he wants to make his supporters feel good that their PM is such an important person that Trump can spare him twenty minutes and a few words.
If this is the case, then the PM decided to keep the momentum going by making a momentous announcement on Sunday. So momentous that ministers were pulled away from official duties and flown from around the country to see what the big announcement is.
And what was it? An ex Menteri Besar who has in the past six years jumped parties twice has now decided to jump back to Umno!
This is supposed to be such great news that a mega press conference with the entire cabinet is required? Why? Is this meant to make the PM’s supporters happy and energized? Or is the ex MB going to help them win back Selangor?
I don’t know. It seems so deluded and silly that one wonders if the PM has any advisors. And if he does, are they like the Fools of literature, or are they just fools?
