A pro-Umno portal has weighed into the debate surrounding Kuala Lumpur City Hall's (DBKL) decision to reject the application to hold the Better Beer Festival 2017.
MyKMU also roped in the objection towards the proposed amendment to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355).
Singling out DAP, MyKMU.net said there is a difference between non-Muslims in Malaysia being allowed to consume alcohol and the promotion of alcohol as a grand event.
Citing smoking as an example, the portal said people have grown accustomed to smoking and it is classified as a personal right.
“However, all of us will agree to oppose any effort to promote cigarettes such as a 'smoking festival', right?” it asked.
The portal said it is not possible for DAP to be in the dark about Muslim sensitivities as well as that of those who adhere to other faiths with regard to the consumption of alcohol.
“(DAP veteran) Lim Kit Siang himself has been in Malaysia for a long time to the point of being declared 'a political antique' (so he must be aware of the sensitivities).
MyKMU noted how DAP supporters on social media have criticised DBKL, claiming that it had denied them their right.
“The excuse is that it is not an issue which concerns Muslims. Unfortunately, the same group do not accord Muslims the same right with regard to Act 355,” it said.
The article also noted how substances which cause intoxication can lead to problems not only for the person involved but others as well.
The writer then went on to relate a personal experience.
“Don't assume the writer is just spewing rhetoric and does not understand the dangers of intoxication.
“The writer's car has been in the mechanic shed for two months for repairs after being rear-ended by a drunk driver. Fortunately, the writer did not suffer serious injuries,” read the article.- Mkini
