30,000 ex-soldiers fail to apply for annual aid

Bakti-Negara-aid

SIK: About 30,000 veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) have yet to apply for the Bakti Negara aid which was announced by Prime Minister Najib Razak last July.
Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) Management Services Division Assistant Director 1 Lieutenant Commander Mohd Yazid Abu Bakar said they were among the 75,000 ATM veterans eligible for the aid.
He advised those who had not applied to do so next year as the application for this year was already closed last October.
“Applications can be made at the DVA office in the respective states,” he said.
ATM veterans would receive RM1,200 (for those receiving BR1M) or RM600 (for those not receiving BR1M) annually under the Bakti Negara aid.
Yazid was met at a “Jalinan Kasih” programme attended by Jeneri assemblyman Mahadzir Abd Hamid here today.
Earlier, Mahadzir presented food kits to 30 ATM veterans in the Jeneri constituency.
Yazid also urged ATM veterans to join the army veteran associations so that information regarding the Bakti Negara aid and other schemes offered by the government could be easily passed on to them and their family members.
“We will also disseminate the information through the print and electronic media, flyers, briefings and gatherings,” he said.
He said the aid was introduced in appreciation of the services and sacrifices by ATM veterans in defending the country.
The Bakti Negara aid is one of five new incentives for ATM veterans announced by the prime minister at the ATM Veterans Assembly held in conjunction with the launch of the 2017 Warriors Fund at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Center (MIECC) in Seri Kembangan last July 31. -FMT
