Bersatu Youth: Probe forex RCI for sedition against Agong

The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Bank Negara's foreign exchange (forex) losses should be investigated for sedition, according to Bersatu Youth.
The wing's information chief Ulya Aqamah Husamudin alleged that the RCI's report was incomplete as it failed to include the transcript of all the witnesses, submissions and evidence.
"As such, we believe this report is incomplete and defective and thus can be likened to an attempt by those involved in preparing the report, to deviate facts from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"We believe this attempt to deviate facts is an offence under the Sedition Act for trying to undermine the dignity of the royal institution by making the report misleading," Ulya (photo) told a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

The RCI report tabled in Parliament on Nov 30 claimed that RM31.5 billion was lost due to Bank Negara's "excessive" and "speculative" foreign exchange activities between 1992 and 1994.
The RCI also established that Nor Mohamed Yakcop, who was part of Bank Negara’s management at the time, was the person in charge of the forex dealing operations.
The commission is also of the opinion that this incident involved a criminal breach of trust under Sections 406 and 409 of the Penal Code.
It further reported that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his then-deputy Anwar Ibrahim, had likely abetted Nor Mohamed and hid certain facts from the cabinet, grave offences under the Penal Code.

On Tuesday, Mahathir (photo), who is Bersatu president, had filed a suit against the RCI, as well as Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over the allegedly incomplete report.
The former premier is seeking a declaration that the RCI is not valid in law and is unacceptable.
Mahathir's supporters have accused the Najib administration of dredging up an old case to exact revenge against the former premier and to deflect attention from the 1MDB scandal.
Yesterday, Mahathir blamed former Bank Negara assistant governor Abdul Murad Khalid for the losses.
He claimed that Murad knew about the losses but chose to remain silent and only revealed what he knew recently.
However, Communication and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak accused Mahathir of launching a “misplaced attack” and asked him to train his guns on DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang instead.
“Murad merely testified in the RCI hearing the real amount of forex losses, which he revealed was RM31.5 billion and not RM5.7 billion.
"It was Kit Siang, however, who for 20 years has been asking for the RCI on Bank Negara's forex losses," he said, accusing the two veteran politicians of hypocrisy.- Mkini
