Cops gets two more days remand for blogger Milosuam

The remand for blogger Yusof Al-Siddique Suratman, better known as Milosuam, has been extended for another two days.

Lawyer G Sivamalar said police requested for the extension this morning after the initial three-day remand order expired, following Yusof's arrest at his home in Malacca last week over a leaked MACC witness statement.

"As to the reason (to extend the remand), police said they did not have time to search Yusof's uncle's house and his grandfather's houses.

"So another two days extension was granted," Sivamalar (second from right) told Malaysiakini when contacted

She however added there were no clear grounds given by the police on reasons to search the two houses as a part of their investigations against Yusof under Section 203A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Section 233 of the CMA criminalises the use of "network facilities" or "services" to transmit communication that is deemed offensive or causing annoyance. Section 203A of the Penal Code relates to "disclosure of information".

Yusof was accused of having uploaded an article that contained a page from what appeared to be an MACC witness statement, linked to graft allegations against Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Senai assemblyperson Wong Shu Qi (photo) raised the allegations in her speech at the Johor legislative assembly on Nov 28, based on contents of the witness statement, and urged Khaled to respond.

On the very same day, milosuam.net uploaded an article that contained a page from what appeared to be an MACC witness statement.

Khaled has since denied taking any bribes, and accused Wong of breaching secrecy laws by referring to the witness statement.

Johor police have recorded Wong's statement in relation to her speech and are said to be applying the same two laws used against Yusof on her.

The witness statement was attributed to Amir Shariffuddin Abd Raub, who was earlier this year charged with money laundering and graft, together with former Johor state executive councillor Abdul Latif Bandi.

The MACC later confirmed the document had indeed been leaked, while Amir Shariffuddin lodged a police report claiming the document was doctored.- Mkini
