DAP urges police to probe Shahrizat for hate speech

DAP women and youth wings have lodged a police report against Umno women chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil's remarks labelling DAP senior leader Lim Kit Siang as "Maharaja" (Emperor).
They want the police to probe the veteran politician for "encouraging hate speech and promoting bigotry" in her statement.
The report was lodged at the northeast police headquarters on Jalan Patani in Georgetown, Penang at 1.30pm today.
Shahrizat uttered the words, "There are only two choices - a government led by Najib through BN or the opposition led by Kit Siang, 'Maharaja Lim" at the recent Umno AGM in Kuala Lumpur when she spoke about the 14th general election (GE14).
She also cautioned the Umno delegates not to vote for the opposition in the coming polls, which will most likely be called after March next year.

DAP Wanita national assistant publicity secretary Syerleena Abdul Rashid (centre in photo) said Shahrizat's remarks were both "amusing and banal".
"While Shahrizat is blindly and foolishly toeing the party line, such remarks depict her as nothing more than an out of touch, condescending political leader who has been lucky enough to have escaped persecution," Syerleena told reporters outside the police headquarters.
Syerleena said Malaysians will never forget the National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) scandal, first exposed in the 2011 Auditor-General report, and how Shahrizat and her family failed to repay the RM250 million loan for its failed cattle-rearing project.
NFCorp was operated by her husband, Mohamed Salleh Ismail, who served as chairperson while the board of directors included their children.
Accompanying Syerleena were Dapsy Penang publicity secretary Wong Yuee Harng and local councillor Chris Lee.

"I have faith that Malaysians will not blindly eat the lies kleptocrats like Shahrizat and others in Umno are trying to sell," said Syerleena who is a Penang Island City councillor.
"These leaders will continue to squander taxpayer’s money for their own vested interests and have very little political will to propel our nation to greater socio-economical achievements," she added.
She added that these leaders will not hesitate to "utilise vile tactics" such as encouraging hate speech and promoting bigotry for their own political survival.
"Perhaps, while some might agree that fear presents some level of use but everyone can agree that cowardice has none and this is exactly where leaders in Umno dwell in this present space and time," added Syerleena, who is also DAP Wanita Penang political education director.- Mkini
