DAP's recon mission finds 'army camp under construction' in Hisham's seat

Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein had challenged the opposition to check if military camps were being constructed in his Sembrong constituency in Johor.
Rubbishing the opposition's claim that the construction of military camps was for political purposes, he quipped that if this was the case, one would be built in his seat since he was defence minister.
Heeding the challenge, Johor DAP embarked on a reconnaissance mission.
At a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today, Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong claimed that there is a camp being constructed in the Paloh state seat, which falls under the Sembrong constituency.
“According to the information we gathered, this will increase the number of Paloh voters by 10 percent with at least 1,000 army personnel deployed there.
“In the last general election, DAP lost Paloh (to MCA) by only 103 votes,” he said.
Liew than issued a counter challenge to Hishammuddin, who is also Umno vice-president, to prove him wrong.
Describing the military camps as “electoral camps”, the Kluang MP criticised Putrajaya for building them in marginal seats to bolster BN's chances in the coming general election.
“In the third quarter of 2017's electoral roll, we saw a huge influx of military personnel in Hutan Melintang and Bera before the construction of the camps were completed.
“The Paloh camp is due for completion in April 2018,” he added.
The incumbent for the Hutang Melintang state seat is PKR's S Kesavan whereas the MP for Bera is Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri.
A Sept 27 posting on the Defence Ministry's Facebook page showed that the military camp in Paloh is one of six being constructed nationwide.
The others are in Segamat, Hutan Melintang, Bera, Kota Belud, and Lahad Datu.- Mkini
