KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is the true champion of Islam, and not PAS, an Umno Youth leader claimed today.
Federal Territories Umno Youth delegate Baidzawi Salleh explained that the religion not only requires its people to abide by its “five pillars of Islam” but that it is much more encompassing.
“We must not have a perception that the religion only focuses on the shahadah (declaration of faith), prayers, paying the zakat, fasting, and going for Haj.
“A lot of people are confused, saying PAS champions Islam. Actually, no. Umno is the one that has done more development, in terms of education, social and others. This is Allah’s greater order,” he said when debating the Umno Youth policy speech debate at the party’s general assembly, here, today.
Baidzawi said both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin have implemented numerous agendas that are beneficial to the country, in keeping with the true teachings of Islam.
“Don’t narrow down the scope of Islam, when Allah himself wants us to govern the country to our best ability,” he said.
MEANWHILE, according to The Malaysian Insight:
By God’s grace, Kelantan will fall, says delegate
GOD has given Umno a sign Kelantan, which has been ruled by an Islamist party since 1990, in the 14th general elections.
Kelantan Umno Youth delegate Sheikh Razali Sheikh Hamad said God has shown PAS and its allies in the opposition are disorganised.
“It’s just like what (Kelantan Umno chief) Mustapa Mohamed said, Kelantan will fall to Umno in GE14,” said Sheikh Razali in his speech during the Umno Youth assembly today.
He said in the 2008 general election, Umno won six out of 45 state seats in Kelantan. This was doubled in the 2013 general elections.
Sheikh Razali said going by this trend, Umno is poised to take over Kelantan.
Kelantan fell to PAS in 1990 and the party has attempted to turn it into an Islamic state. In 1993 it passed the country’s first Islamic penal code, hudud and qisas.
Since it took over, Pas has called Kelantan the “gateway to Mecca” (serambi mekkah).
Meanwhile, Sheikh Razali also wanted a post in all government agencies and statutory bodies for Umno Youth representatives to connect to voters.
Sheikh Razali said these coordinators will be the eyes and ears of the party, and the government.
He said these posts have already been created at the Federal Land consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority but wanted them extended to all agencies.
