Liew: Probe into speech questioning Johor MB sets dangerous precedent

Johor DAP chief and Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong has said the police are setting a dangerous precedent with the investigation into Senai assemblyperson Wong Shu Qi.
This follows after Wong had made a speech in the state assembly questioning if Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin was implicated in graft.
In a statement today, Liew said, "Police investigations into speeches made inside the House set a dangerous precedent which infringes upon the rights and privileges of an elected representative to raise questions and issues on behalf of the people.

"Wong (photo) was posing a question to Khaled in a speech which should be replied to with a proper answer, not with the police investigation," he said.
"Speeches made in Parliament or state assemblies are given immunity to allow representatives to speak without fear or favour."
Yesterday, police summoned Wong to facilitate an investigation under Section 203A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Section 203A of the Penal Code concerns the disclosure of information obtained in the performance of an officer's duties exercised under written law while Section 233 of the CMA concerns misuse of network facilities.
Wong, when debating the Johor budget on Nov 28, made a reference to a witness statement uploaded on a blog implicating Khaled in a bumiputera real estate conversion graft case that had seen former Johor exco Abdul Latif Bandi arrested and charged.
She had demanded for Khaled to come clean on whether the witness statement was true.
MACC appeared to confirm the authenticity of the witness statement after it admitted the document was leaked and lodged a police report.
Addressing the Johor state assembly on Monday, Khaled had denied the claims and dismissed them as "baseless, slander and untrue".- Mkini
