MCMC pledges to cooperate on alleged TMI statement leak

The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has pledged to cooperate with the authorities on the alleged leak of The Malaysian Insight (TMI) chief executive officer and editor Jahabar Sadiq's statement to the commission.
“Since TMI has lodged a report with the police, let the investigations run its due course. We shall give full cooperation in the investigations,” said MCMC to Malaysiakini in an email communique.
Jahabar had filed a police report on the alleged leak last Friday.
This followed a report in the Malaysian Gazette which quoted non-governmental organisation Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Azwanddin Hamzah on TMI's funding.
Azwanddin said he received documents through the JMM-managed portal "myaduan rasuah" and that the documents are believed to have been given by a source in TMI.
He lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after receiving information, alleging that there are irregularities in terms of TMI's funding.
Jahabar claimed that Azwanddin had leaked and twisted several facts he made in his statement to MCMC.
MCMC had zoomed in on TMI after delegates at the recent Umno general assembly called for an investigation into the news portal, whom they accused of being critical of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
It was also revealed that one of TMI's directors is Faridah Begum, who is Jahabar's sister and the wife of attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali.- Mkini
