MP wants Najib probed for DAP anti-Malay, anti-Islam remarks

After days of DAP being a punching bag at the Umno general assembly, a police report has been lodged against Umno president Najib Abdul Razak for calling DAP anti-Malay and anti-Islam.
The reports were lodged by Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, Kampung Tunku assemblyperson Lau Weng San, and DAP central committee member Ronnie Liu.
Lim said Najib should be investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code and other relevant laws for causing disharmony, hatred, and enmity.
"I refer to his policy speech on Dec 7... these are blatant lies by the Umno president," Lim (photo) told reporters outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters today.

Najib, who is also the prime minister, had on Thursday said that DAP "was clearly" anti-Malay and anti-Islam "as stated in DAP's constitution which makes no mention of Islam as the religion of the federation, and in fact wants to make the country completely secular."
He had also said that Malay and Muslim institutions would be destroyed should a DAP-led opposition come to power.
Section 298A of the Penal Code states that: "(1) Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or by visible representations, or by any act, activity or conduct... (a) causes, or attempts to cause, or is likely to cause disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill will; or (b) prejudices, or attempts to prejudice, or is likely to prejudice, the maintenance of harmony or unity, on grounds of religion, between persons or groups of persons professing the same or different religions, shall be punished."
Those convicted can be imprisoned between two to five years.
Lim also stressed that if Najib's allegations were true, then the Sultan of Selangor would not have accepted DAP as part of the state government.
"What he said is nothing but malicious falsehoods," he said.
He also asked if Najib would call BN components such as MCA, and Gerakan anti-Islam if their respective constitutions also did not mention Islam as the religion of the federation.

Meanwhile, the trio in their report also urged police to investigate Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos (photo) for the threats he made against former Umno minister and current DAP member Zaid Ibrahim.
Lau explained that although Jamal is already under arrest, investigations on the matter should be expedited.
"He should be charged as soon as possible," Lau added.
Jamal was today remanded for two days, following his arrest last night.
The Umno leader had threatened to hit Zaid with a sledgehammer if the authorities did not take action against the ex-minister.
Jamal had wanted police to take action against Zaid for courting the displeasure of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in a series of tweets.- Mkini
