NURUL DENIES RECEIVING OFFER FROM NAJIB TO DEFECT, SIDESTEPS INTERIM PM-DPM ISSUE AMID FIERCE INFIGHTING WITHIN PKR FOR AZMIN TO REPLACE AZIZAH AS DPM & THEREBY SUCCEED DR M AS PM INSTEAD OF ANWAR

PAKATAN Harapan’s focus is to win the next general election rather than quibbling over government leadership, as speculation builds when Prime Minister Najib Razak will call GE14, Nurul Izzah Anwar told a forum in Melbourne.
The PKR vice-president said the pact will not be swayed by distractions about a Dr Mahathir Mohamad-Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail ticket as interim prime minister and deputy should it capture Putrajaya.
“Our desire in winning the federal government is to ensure we realise the reform agenda,” Nurul Izzah told The Malaysian Insight after the forum hosted by Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia in Australia (SABM) yesterday.
The proposal that former prime minister Dr Mahathir be appointed interim prime minister and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah as deputy was a “hot topic” in questions put to Nurul Izzah, speaking from Kuala Lumpur via teleconference on “Unity of the rakyat”.
To a question The Malaysian Insight put to Nurul Izzah after the forum on what she thought of the idea, she said: “I believe in the wisdom of the current team of PH leaders – all colleagues of mine, to deliberate the merits within closed doors.
“Our desire… is to… accord all Malaysians a more equal footing under the Malaysian sun.”
The Malaysian Insight reported that the proposal was raised at a two-day PH retreat at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya on December 1 and 2.
The SABM forum was the eighth in the series hosted in Melbourne on the theme “The road to GE14”.
Issues of concern included a perception of a weakening economy in Malaysia and what reforms PH had in mind to encourage Malaysians abroad to return to help rebuild the nation.
Nurul Izzah assured the audience that PH was close to finalising its election manifesto, which it expected to announce in a month.
She also refuted rumours about Umno dangling carrots before jailed PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim and her to cross over.
Speculation arose after visits by Najib and other leading Umno figures to Anwar in hospital.
She referred to the exchanges of pantun between Anwar and Najib “to get a sense of the reality facing a political prisoner as he receives such a visit”.
“This year marks DSAI’s 10th year in prison – and PM’s visit was mere days before DSAI was slapped with yet another scurrilous charge pertaining to criminal breach of trust (the royal commission of inquiry into Bank Negara Malaysia foreign exchange losses in the 1990s).
“We cannot allow actions by the powers that be to derail us from fostering unity in pursuit of electoral victory.”
