PAS: Expect more 'strange' antics from Dr M

With the 14th general election looming closer, PAS believes that former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad may perform more "strange" antics to gain support for Pakatan Harapan.
PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said these stunts, such as calling for Anwar Ibrahim's release from prison, shows Mahathir would do anything to gain political mileage.
"These are politics of desperation, we can see that Mahathir doesn't know how else to get support.
"Based on our experience, Mahathir can do anything. Maybe when we get closer to GE14, there will be more strange antics," Mohd Amar (photo) told reporters when met in Kota Bharu last night.

Mahathir had in a joint statement with US lawyer Kimberley Motley last week called for Anwar’s immediate release on the grounds of his status as a political prisoner, as recognised by several international human rights watchdogs.
“Anwar is a political prisoner and has been detained for more than 34 months. We urge the government to seriously consider our request in the name of justice and Malaysia’s international reputation,” the statement read.
Mohd Amar, who is also Kelantan deputy menteri besar, said the rakyat will not be fooled by this call, as Mahathir himself had sent Anwar to prison.
"He got rid of Anwar. During Pak Lah's (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) time he raised Najib up, but now he is fighting Najib.
"Mahathir is just fighting the damage he had done in the past," he said.
Anwar was first jailed for sodomy in 1999, when Mahathir was prime minister.

Mahathir has insisted that he was not behind the jailing, and that it was strictly a police matter.
Anwar was jailed for sodomy a second time in 2015. He is expected to be released sometime next year.
The two had buried the hatchet in an iconic meeting last year, and are now co-leaders of Harapan.- Mkini
