PM Najib vows action on Felda land scandal

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has ordered a probe into the transfer of ownership of prime Felda land in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur.
"I want a detailed investigation by the authorities to be conducted immediately. Action will be taken against any negligence or misconduct," Najib said in a series of tweets.
"Steps to protect the interest of Felda and settlers must be taken," he also said.

Yesterday it was reported that Felda risked losing land valued at around RM270 million, located along Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur, due to an ownership transfer through an allegedly "dubious transaction" in 2015.
The land is currently being developed as a part of the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project, which involves seven towers - including a "Felda tower," known as KLVC Tower1A, a 68-storey structure comprising 59 levels of office space and a helipad.
Felda chairperson Shahrir Samad said a police report had been lodged after the matter was raised to the Prime Minister's Department on Dec 12.
He said Felda was supposed to retain ownership of the land, but in 2014, the KLVC project's master developer was granted power of attorney and transferred ownership of the land to itself.
Asked whether the police report had also named former Felda chairperson Isa Samad or other board members in charge at the time, Shahrir said only the developer was mentioned, and he would leave the rest up to the police to investigate.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Razali Ibrahim, meanwhile, said that an independent audit would be conducted next month to determine if there had been breaches of procedure within Felda or Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) Sdn Bhd. - Mkini
