Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan has invited singer Sheila Majid and other celebrities to attend a briefing by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) on the state of the economy.
"Maybe Persatuan Seniman can organise the visit and I will be delighted to be the host," Rahman added on Twitter.
His invitation comes after Sheila and other celebrities made headlines for voicing out concerns about the rising cost of living.
"I love Sheila, I am a big fan. If I can tolerate inane ramblings by the opposition, surely I can listen to her or anyone’s honest view.
"But I do hope she can engage her critics and articulate further the reasons why she said what she said," Rahman said in a series of tweets.
After all, in other countries, celebrities, comedians and even porn stars have a say about issues affecting their nations. Some even decided to become full time politicians.— Abdul Rahman Dahlan (@mpkotabelud) December 10, 2017
The Kota Belud MP said there was nothing wrong with celebrities commenting on current affairs, but warned that they should be prepared to face criticism.
"After all, in other countries, celebrities, comedians and even porn stars have a say about issues affecting their nations. Some even decided to become fulltime politicians," he added.
However, he said such celebrities are already well known for speaking out and getting involved in issues that they are passionate about, instead of making irregular tweets with the expectation that people would understand their motives.- Mkini
