The father of a boy involved in a court case against Azizan Manap, popularly known as Cikgu Azizan, has denied intending to sue the teacher.
A report previously claimed that the boy’s mother intended to sue Azizan after charges against the latter for allegedly slapping her son were dropped.
However, the father later told the New Straits Times that his wife could have been misquoted due to “confusion” during her interview with the press.
“We have been put under pressure by the situation. Our focus now is to recover from the trauma the family is facing.
“Proceeding with a civil suit is not in the plans for now,” he was quoted as saying.
Azizan (photo), 44, was accused by the family of slapping their 11-year-old son.
The teacher had reportedly done so to punish the boy for allegedly sniffing glue, playing truant and bullying his schoolmates at the assembly area of SK Taman Semarak, Nilai, about 7am on April 6.
Azizan, who was represented by lawyer Francis Pereira, was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code on Oct 31.
Section 323 pertains to causing hurt voluntarily, which could have seen him imprisoned for a year or slapped with a fine of RM2,000.
The case had garnered significant support for Azizan from the teaching fraternity as well as the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP).
Yesterday, charges against him were dropped at the Seremban Magistrates’ Court following orders from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Hundreds of Azizan's supporters who gathered outside the court were jubilant on hearing the news.- Mkini
