Rosmah tells youths to be ‘loyal, patriotic’

In developing the next generation of leaders, it is imperative for students to build on their character and sharpen leadership skills, says the prime minister's wife, Rosmah Mansor.
Of late, she said, the spirit of nationalism has been waning among a number of Malaysians, as indicated by their expressions in the newspapers and on social media, raising doubts on the level of love the public had for the country.
According to her, the patriotic spirit among youths must be strengthened to ensure that future generations manifest a high level of nationalism and maintain Eastern values in achieving the goals of the National Transformation 2050 (TN50).
"These are among the noble qualities and elements which are core values that define success for the individual, society and nation.

"Indeed, independent nations have their national identity, political discourse and cultural identity," Rosmah said at a dinner attended by over 400 Overseas Umno Clubs (KULN) members and delegates of the National Student Leadership Conference (Pemanas) in Putrajaya last night.
The conference was held in conjunction with the Umno general assembly 2017 to be held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from Dec 5 to 9.
Rosmah said Malaysians should learn from the global scenario which saw several countries in West Asia and Africa falling apart.
As such, she said students and young people should appreciate the sacrifices made by past and present generations who had always prioritised on the well-being of future generations.
“To that end, embrace the principle of loyalty to the nation and cultivate the spirit of patriotism in yourself so that our independence can be maintained, the sovereignty of the nation preserved and filled with success in the future," she said.
Rosmah also hoped that synergy between Pemanas, KULN members and the Umno leadership would continue to benefit religion, society and the nation.
