DAP, PPBM, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Lim Kit Siang, Zaid Ibrahim, Anwar Ibrahim and all those Pakatan leaders have done Barisan Nasional a huge favour. They have convinced Umno, PAS and the Raja-Raja Melayu that it is within their mutual interest to work together. If before this the DAP-led Pakatan had a 50:50 chance of marching in to Putrajaya, now the odds have been drastically reduced.
DAP knows that the Raja-Raja Melayu perceive Pakatan Harapan as a DAP-led Pakatan Harapan. So the next general election is going to be a contest between an Umno-led coalition and a DAP-led coalition — in short a Malay-led coalition versus a Chinese-led coalition.
The Raja-Raja Melayu make no secret of the fact that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang, Zaid Ibrahim, and many more Pakatan leaders are anti-monarchy and republicans. These Pakatan leaders are saying that the end of the monarchy is no longer a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. Hence the continuance of the constitutional monarchy and the future of the Raja-Raja Melayu depends on the Umno-led Barisan Nasional staying in power.
If Pakatan Harapan wants to march into Putrajaya it must first challenge the Raja-Raja Melayu. As long as the Raja-Raja Melayu exist then Pakatan Harapan will find the going tough. For example, DAP has announced that Husam Musa is going to be the Menteri Besar of Kelantan if Pakatan Harapan wins the state in the next general election. But then Husam is persona non-grata in the Kelantan Palace so that is never going to happen.
Pakatan Harapan is saying it is the political party and not the Sultan who decides who shall become the Menteri Besar. In that case why is Azmin Ali the Selangor Menteri Besar and not Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail? The Sultan has the final say and HRH the Sultan of Selangor proved this.
DAP wants to field Zaid Ibrahim in Selangor so that he can replace Azmin as the Selangor Menteri Besar. But there is no way HRH can accept Zaid as the new Selangor Menteri Besar. If Kelantan cannot accept Zaid how can Selangor accept him? And that is the reason why Zaid is threatening the Sultan. Zaid knows the Sultan will never accept him so before anything he has to attack the Sultan and ‘put HRH in his place’.
But that was a huge mistake. It only convinces the Raja-Raja Melayu even more that Pakatan Harapan is dangerous. Zaid’s threat is very clear. If the Raja-Raja Melayu stand in Pakatan Harapan’s way then they face the risk of being removed and for Malaysia to be turned into a republic.
So now it is not just Umno versus DAP, or an Umno-led coalition versus a DAP-led coalition. It is the future of Umno, the Malays, Islam and the Raja-Raja Melayu that are at stake. So it is in the interest of the Malay nationalist party, the Islamic party, and the Raja-Raja Melayu, to cooperate to make sure that the DAP-led Pakatan Harapan never comes to power.

Good for Zaid Ibrahim. With friends like him Pakatan does not need any enemies. Zaid has done more damage to Pakatan then Umno ever could. And this damage is irreparable. And with Mahathir adding salt to the wound you can be assured the wound will never heal as long as the DAP-led Pakatan still exists. My bet is they have just guaranteed Barisan Nasional not less than 145 parliament seats in the next general election with at least 90 of those seats for Umno. Does anyone want to take that bet?
