UMNO AGM | Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has no one but the party wing to thank for her political comeback.
In her closing speech at the Wanita Umno annual general meeting today, Shahrizat thanked the party’s women's wing, stating that she would not be standing there were it not for them.
"My family and I faced various difficult challenges, but you gave me your loyalty and gave me strength. I will never forget this until I die.
"When I was in difficulty, you gave me strength, so that I will not be defeated. Today, I have risen together with all of you," she said, addressing Wanita umno delegates present at the Putra World Trade Centre today.
Despite what she termed was "five years of misery" filled with tears, Shahrizat added that the revival of her political career could be attributed to the presence of Wanita Umno in her life.
"That's why I want to devote myself to the Wanita Umno movement. I won't forget your services.
"How I am to repay your kindness - this is not about apple polishing, but is a fight to elevate women's dignity."
The fight for women, she said, was not limited to bumiputeras, but was for the development of all women in the country.
Shahrizat had previously served as the women, family and community development minister, but was forced to resign after she and her family were implicated in the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) controversy.
In 2012, she was cleared by the MACC of having had a hand in awarding the multi-million ringgit project to her family members.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Monday had hinted at her return to mainstream politics after he expressed hope for her to be given an "utmost important position" after the general election.- Mkini
