PETALING JAYA: DAP Senai assemblywoman Wong Shu Qi says she is unfazed by the Johor menteri besar’s warning on taking action against her over allegations she made regarding land deals in the state.
“I was exercising my duty as an assemblywoman to pose questions to the state government on whether the online statement purportedly made by a witness was true or otherwise.
“If he (Khaled) is not happy with that, it is up to him to bring me to court,” she told FMT.
Wong was responding to Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin’s statement yesterday in Sin Chew Daily that he did not rule out taking action against her if she continued to accuse him of taking bribes over a land scandal in March.
However, he did not specify what type of action he would take against her.
The Permas assemblyman said Wong should have investigated and produced concrete evidence before making false claims against him.
Wong reminded Khaled that her speech was made in the Johor state assembly where she had absolute immunity from prosecution.
“I will not stop asking questions until I get an answer,” she said, when asked if such a warning and police investigations would stop her raising the land deal issue.
Wong was kicked out from the state assembly on Nov 27 after questioning Khaled on an allegation that he had taken RM12 million from a developer to change the status of Bumiputera housing lots to non-Bumiputera lots.
Speaker Mohamad Aziz had told her to leave the assembly after she refused to retract her statement.
She was also called in for police investigations last Thursday over a leaked document from a witness.
Khaled had denied receiving the money as a bribe and said the accusation was malicious and aimed at tarnishing him personally and his state government leadership.
Earlier this year, fellow Pekan Nanas DAP assemblyman Yeo Tung Siong suffered the same fate when he was kicked out from the house for seeking an emergency motion to debate the land deal.
Former Johor executive councillor Abd Latif Bandi is currently facing charges involving 33 counts of corruption and 21 counts of money laundering over the land issue.
Besides Latif, his son, Ahmad Fauzan Hatim, and properly consultant Amir Shariffuddin Abd Raub are also facing corruption and money-laundering charges.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had confirmed that a witness statement on the case had been leaked online and said it will lodge a police report. -FMT
