Thousands flock to KLCC for Comic Fiesta

The 2017 edition of Comic Fiesta attracted fans from all over Malaysia and beyond.
Cosplay-KLCCPETALING JAYA: Thousands of fans of anime, comics, video games (ACG) and other related interests, from both Malaysia and abroad, descended on the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) over the weekend for the Comic Fiesta (CF) 2017.
CF, organised by the SAYS Youth Society, is Malaysia’s largest ACG event and has been held annually since 2002.
CF 2017 marks the fifth time, and the first since 2014, that KLCC has played host to the event. The 2016 edition, held at the Putra World Trade Centre, registered a turnout of 50,000 artists, cosplayers and fans.
In CF 2017, some of the events included a cosplay competition, an art demonstration by members of Japanese animation company Studio Trigger, tournaments for video games Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, Tekken 7, and Street Fighter V, live music performances by the likes of Mystical Mirage, Earthbound Papas, kors k, and kradness, and appearances by internationally-renowned cosplayers “Chihiro 千尋” from Taiwan, “Liui” from the Philippines, and “Hikarin” from Canada.
Several celebrity guests also spoke at panels about little-known elements in the world of ACG.
CF is also notable for having many booths at which vendors sell art, clothing, trinkets, and various other objects related to ACG.
Mishie Chua, who was running a booth known as “The Gendai Soubi Club” for the second consecutive year, said: “We are selling the same things as last year. We sell T-shirts, badges, and posters as well.”
Chua became inspired to run a booth at CF 2016 after attending previous fiestas as a visitor.
Cosplayer “Ren Ryu” meanwhile has been cosplaying at CF every year since 2012.
Speaking about his cosplaying experiences, he said: “My friends started to cosplay first. Then, they brought me to the conventions, so the next year, I tried to cosplay myself.”
He added that his favourite cosplay so far was one of Irvine Kinneas, a character from video game Final Fantasy VIII.
Even fans who were only there to attend came away from the event with interesting experiences.
Julius Wan, who has been to every CF since 2012, considers the concerts the highlight of the event.
“I looked forward to more of the music performers this year,” he said.
Although those attending could enter with an ordinary ticket, those who had purchased the “Magic Cube” package for RM129 received not only tickets for both days of the event, but also a special badge, a limited edition mug, and a special edition Touch ‘n Go card, which features images of the CF 2017 mascots. - FMT
