Time to quit, Sabah Umno Youth tells veteran reps

Sabah Umno Youth have issued a challenge to veteran party lawmakers in the state: quit and make way for youths.
Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, a Sabah Umno Youth delegate, said the challenge applies to reps who have served more than three terms.
"Enough is enough... write a letter to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak... Make way for the youth.
"These positions are not our mothers' or fathers', it is Umno's!" Khairul Firdaus said at the party youth wing assembly in the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.
Khairul Firdaus joked that he was committing "suicide" with his remarks.
However, he noted that not a single Sabah Umno Youth candidate has been fielded in a general election for 10 years.
Instead, the local political scene is dominated by veteran politicians who have been in office since the time of the United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) in the 1970s.
"In 2017 they are still leaders, still saying their struggle is not yet complete. Where is the logic in this?" he asked.
He said Umno Sabah Youth had many qualified candidates that could be fielded in the general election.

Khairul Firdaus also said that former Umno vice-president Mohd Shafie Apdal (photo) made a smart move in forming the state-based Parti Warisan Sabah.
He was quick to stress, however, that what Shafie contributed to Sabah was thanks to Umno.
"Shafie is great because of Umno...Stories that he is great because of himself are false," the Umno Youth exco member said.
Shafie formed Warisan in October last year after having quit Umno.
The former rural and regional development minister's ties with the ruling Malay party had been fractured after Najib axed him from the Cabinet in 2015.
Shafie had fallen out of Najib's favour for criticising 1MDB.- Mkini
