‘We know our enemies and what is their religion’

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno delegate from Pahang today called for members to wage “jihad” in order to protect Islam and Malays as well as the preservation of Umno.

Wan Emril Nizam Wan Embong said Umno members should be mindful of party president Najib Razak’s warning in his keynote address yesterday at the Umno general assembly that the Malays would lose power if they were not careful in the 14th general election.

“We know who are our enemies and we know what is their religion. We must fight because this is our land and we are Muslims,” he said without naming the enemies nor the religion during his debate on the president’s speech at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today.

It is believed that Wan Emril was alluding to DAP as the enemy of Umno. DAP has been the main focus of the entire assembly with various Umno leaders, including Najib, taking pot shots at the party and vilifying its leaders.

There is also a “walk of shame” exhibition of cartoon caricatures and photoshopped images with an anti-DAP theme at PWTC on the sidelines of the Umno general assembly.

Following his fiery speech, Wan Emril then proceeded to pray, calling for protection for the Malays and for God to help Umno. -FMT
