PETALING JAYA: An expert has criticised those who do not follow proper policies when hiring for jobs involving security.
JK Associates principal consultant Khen Han Ming was speaking specifically about a recent case involving a 69-year-old Pakistani security guard found murdered near a reservoir at Puchong Permai.
Bernama quoted Subang Jaya police chief ACP Mohammad Azlon Sadari as saying the victim, known as Muhammad Gul, died after being slashed on the head and both his hands while at his guard post.
“Early investigations point to snatch theft being the motive when four suspects, aged between 16 and 20, who were possibly drunk, ran out of money to buy booze,” he told Bernama.
Speaking to FMT, Khen said not only were hiring security guards outside of Nepal against government policy, he found it “baffling” that some companies would be as complacent as to hire security guards who were beyond the age of retirement.
“The man was 69 years old! What could he have done in such a situation?”
Admitting he did not have the numbers, Khen said he had found that many other companies were also hiring old men as security guards.
“You will often see them in business districts and near shopping malls working the night shift.
“Sometimes, they carry shotguns. One wonders if they have the necessary agility to wield such weapons.”
He said although companies may use a shortage of qualified Nepali guards as an excuse, he said companies should try harder and not just look at one company to supply the guards needed. -FMT
