YOURSAY | 'If one media got it wrong, I can understand. But how did everyone get it wrong?'
Tpn: Hello, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, how about playing the full video clip of minister Hamzah Zainudin's speech at the Umno general assembly (AGM)?
Maybe one journalist may have misunderstood his speech, but not when so many reported the issue on similar note.
On the watch issue, just answer “yes” or “no”. Don't beat around the bush claiming Malaysiakini is talking nonsense.
Anonymous 2443871479002035: If one media got it wrong, I can understand. But how is it possible for all the media to get it wrong? Is there a "conspiracy" among the media, including the BN media?
Come on, Tengku Adnan, grow up. Don't treat us as fools. Hamzah messed up big time. You should reprimand him, not the rest of the world.
Negarawan: "Remember, you all are going to see God, and we will accuse you of lying and slandering towards the community just to help some people gain success," said Ku Nan.
Ku Nan speaks as if he knows the mind of God.
This is the basic mindset of corrupt politicians - that God is always on their side no matter how sinful their lives are, and that their opponents are always against God's will. They are numb to the truth.
And regarding the watches allegedly given away at the Umno general assembly, the latest internet discount pricing puts the price of a dual-tone Tissot PR100 at about RM2,500.
The special silhouette on the watch face could mean the actual cost is even higher, but for simplicity sake, let's keep the price at that.
Umno’s 5,793 delegates multiplied by RM2,500 equals RM14,482,500. Where did they get RM14 million to buy the watches? I hope it's not from the rakyat again.
Slumdog: If media outlets have to answer to God, where does that leave Umno's spin masters and everything else diabolical that they get involved in?
As journalists have to be responsible for their reporting, Tengku Adnan, does that also apply to Utusan Malaysia, TV3 and Berita Harian reporters?
Anonymous 767061504497195: These fellows in Umno seem to know matters better than God. First, the DPM, who is in communication with God, said that because floods hit Penang, the Penang government will collapse...
But when it hit Putrajaya and other BN-held states and Kelantan, he kept his mouth shut.
Now Ku Nan is talking about God questioning journalists as though God had prepared the questions and given it to him for approval.
In all probability, God would be full of praise for all these journalists who endeavour to speak the truth.
Ipoh Pp: I just wonder who has to answer to God for being blind and dumb? God has given us two big eyes, a big mouth and a skull which is supposed to contain grey matter.
If we can't see right from wrong, and see a thief a mile away, we have no business opening our mouths.
Simple Malaysian: Here's a simple question to you, Ku Nan - what do you think God would do to those who remain silent or oblivious to the elephant in the room called 1MDB?
Who shall be answerable for this fiasco? Or are those currently in authority going to tell God there is no such thing as the alleged fiasco?
S Kumar: The Umno general assembly has lost its esteem. Umno delegates do not meet to discuss how to develop the country, and how to help the people. Now they use the AGM as a platform to condemn the opposition.
No matter how hard the opposition tries to solve the people’s problems, they are not appreciated but attacked for trivial issues. Umno delegates who get to the stand have nothing in mind but to disparage the opposition.
Sadly, most delegates are half-baked. They spit in the air with their unprofessional speeches. They bark at the wrong tree. They start spilling words without thoroughly analysing the issue, and when things go wrong, they blame the media for spinning their words.
The best part is the attendees clap at every nonsense spoken. The Umno general assembly is a waste of time and money, and is something this country can do without.
Anonymous #13114320: Those speeches were aired in RTM for the kampong folks to watch, so they don't care if it sounds idiotic.
After all, who would be such fools attack the Malay institution and Islam, when the latter are the majority?
Hopelessly: Have you not seen the movie ‘Wag The Dog’, Malaysiakini columnist Fa Abdul?
In any case, while criticising the standard of the provocative (no longer a product of deep thought, of course) Umno leaders, don't forget to evaluate the standard of those watching the speeches year after year.
Vgeorgemy: Our wishes may come true yet, as there is a high feeling of nostalgia among the youths who are outside the political parties' influence for a strongman to put the economy and security back in order.
Things are moving in that direction. The returning of royal awards by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad is possibly meant to convey this message to the youth - that a secure and stable leadership will bring back the country's economic prosperity, with substantial income growth to B40 community (the bottom 40% of households) complete with the affordable lifestyle to meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.
Anticonmen: The Germans too had this supremacist thinking under their leader Adolf Hitler, and committed the worst atrocities trying to become the supreme, entitled race. In the end, they failed.
Ultimately, before Allah, all are equal, whether you think you are supreme, special, favoured, more-than-equal and so on. That's a universal law.- Mkini
