Yoursay: Welcome to Kelantan, we deliberately slow everything down

YOURSAY | ‘Kelantan PAS leaders do not even see their own flaws.’
Annonymous: MIDF Research reported the highest youth unemployment rate among all states was recorded in Kelantan at a hideous 13.8 percent. Its youth labour force actually shrank in 2016.
Six other states - Malacca, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Pahang and Kedah - recorded single-digit youth unemployment rates. Youth unemployment rate in Terengganu is also a high 12.8 percent last year.
Crime rate is also on the rise in Kelantan lately. Factors contributing to crime - unemployment, hardship and desperation for money - pushes one to do undesirable things, what more when one is jobless and not given an opportunity to work.
According to the Household Income Survey (HIS) issued by the Department of Statistics, 50 percent of Malaysian households earn a monthly income of RM4,585 and above. However, Kelantan’s median monthly household income is only RM2,716.
Kelantan continues to lag behind in terms of per capita income. Between 2005 and 2015, its GDP per capita is just one-third of the national average.
According to the Department of Statistics, the GDP per capita in Kelantan was a shocking RM12,000 in 2015 while the national per capita income was RM37,000.
And this is all Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah has to say - the lack of development and progress in Kelantan was “planned” so that its people do not get “left behind”.
Anonymous 2460391489930458: "In Kelantan, Malay reserve land stands at 90 percent. If we develop too rapidly, we will lose those lands," said Mohd Amar.
If you analyse Kelantan deputy MB's remark, he is actually saying that the Malays themselves are unable to develop the land. But development and land ownership should not be mutually exclusive.
The Kelantanese Malays should be able to develop the land themselves so they can keep the land in Malay hands, right?
To give the excuse that there is little development in Kelantan just so that the state can keep it in the hands of the Malays is actually a stupid excuse for being a failed state and an insult to the Malays who have the opportunity to progress but somehow are not able to.
6th Generation Immigrant: Herein lies the real problem, these Kelantan PAS leaders do not even see their own flaws.
Alcoholics and drug addicts must, first of all, admit that they are indeed afflicted otherwise any cure prescribed will go to waste. You can't treat anyone who does not want to be treated.
Anonymous #44199885: This shocking statement from PAS is an excuse for its failure to combat poverty and bring development to the state.
It is sad that the Malays in Kelantan have fallen for the empty promises of PAS only to find out after decades of PAS rule that PAS is incompetent in managing the state economy in a globalised world.
It is better for the Kelantanese to vote in BN before they get left further behind by the rest of the country in the new century. Time is running out and in GE14 they should be wise when casting their vote - reject PAS for the failure that they are.
Wg321: Does Kelantan Umno support Mohd Amar in his assertion that PAS deliberately does not want to develop Kelantan?
If Kelantan Umno supports PAS in this manner, it means a vote for Umno is the same as a vote for PAS - they are a conjoined twin.
Hamzah Paiman: Many Malays in Kelantan feel that development is deliberately slow to make them dependent on handouts by the state government. That is PAS' way of managing the state. Many Malays however are realising this now.
Victor Johan: Mohd Amar was talking at a ceramah, so obviously he was addressing a group of Kelantanese residents living in the suburbs and basically asking them to be contended with the failure of the PAS-led state government to show any progress for the last 27 years.
Can this poor weak soul then answer why the need for the state government to ask for an increase in the oil royalty that the federal government and Petronas had denied them all these years?
Ah-hah!!!: There is a Chinese saying, which in English goes like this, "Stumble and fall to the ground, grab a handful of dirt." Meaning - make an obvious mistake, claim frivolous reason.
Perhaps Mohd Amar will next loudly thank BN for withholding Kelantan's rightful oil royalties "so that the people know how to truly value things which are given to them".
Sigh. Expect more "strange" words of wisdom from PAS' leaders as GE14 draws near, all in the aid of PAS-Umno friendship?
Puzzling: Should we blame our education system for producing people with such "anti-logic" thinking?
Once I had a Chinese friend who rented a GLC-owned (government-link company) shop in a complex. He was the only Chinese among the tenants.
He always paid his rent promptly at the beginning of the month. One day he received a notice of a rent hike. He checked with all the other tenants and found out that none of them received any notice of rent hike.
He confronted the management who explained to him the rationale behind increasing his rent. This was because their record showed that he was a very good paymaster who always paid very promptly.
Therefore, he had proven that he could afford to pay the increased rent. The other tenants were always in arrears by several months. Hence it showed that they could not afford to pay higher rent.
Vijay47: I'm sorry, Mohd Amar, but I think you entered the foray a tad too late. It was a valiant effort but Malaysiakini has already closed entries for the 2017 "Comedian of the Year" award.
However, you could still try for the Umno awards, which run throughout the year. I must warn you though, party information chief Annuar Musa is miles ahead of you.- Mkini
