Zahid insists PKR, Amanah reps will attend ‘Save Jerusalem’ rally

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today insisted that there will be representatives from both PKR and Amanah at the "Save Jerusalem" solidarity rally to be held at the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya tomorrow.
His statement contradicts that of Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa, who said that the party would not be participating in tomorrow's rally.
"There will be those representing Amanah (and) there will be those representing PKR," Zahid said in a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

Mujahid (photo) has been asked to be one of the panellists at a special forum during the rally tomorrow.
News portal Free Malaysia Today reported yesterday that the Amanah leader was contemplating rejecting Zahid’s invitation to speak at the forum, saying that he has to follow his party’s official stand on the matter.
Zahid said they have found a replacement for Mujahid, who is also from Amanah.
"His replacement is someone from the same party as him. Let them fight amongst themselves," he added.
When asked to confirm Pakatan Harapan's participation in the rally, Zahid quipped: "Has Harapan been registered?"
In a statement today, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil confirmed PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s participation in the special forum.
Malaysia is expected to announce a resolution on the issue of Jerusalem at the rally tomorrow.
The issue of Jerusalem cropped up after US President Donald Trump (photo) announced that the country now considered Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel.

Zahid yesterday confirmed that 250 NGOs, including non-Muslim organisations and political parties, had confirmed their attendance at the rally.
Meanwhile, Zahid said the government was unfazed despite the US' threat that it will be "taking names" of countries that vote in support of a UN resolution criticising its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
"In defending Jerusalem, we are not worried if any countries want to take diplomatic action or otherwise, including taking down names.
"Our stand is clear – the sanctity of Jerusalem must be defended," he said.
The deputy premier also does not believe that Malaysia's stand on the matter would jeopardise aid it received from the US.
"We don't receive much aid, because we don't only receive but we give, too.
"Defence, security and trade issues must be separated completely from the issue of Jerusalem," he added.-  Mkini
