PARLIAMENT | The Election Commission (EC) is currently reviewing and conducting further studies on the implementation of automatic voter registration and the lowering of the voting age from 21.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Liew Vui Keong said this involves studying amendments to existing laws, outlining changes to the registration process, and the need for systems and tools to implement automatic registration.
"The EC is also responsible for ensuring each proposed improvement can be implemented successfully and is in accordance with the law," he said.
Liew said this in a written reply to Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS-Kota Bharu) dated yesterday.
Takiyuddin had asked whether the government would be implementing these two proposals.
Pakatan Harapan's manifesto had pledged to lower the voting age to 18.
It also promised to automate the voter registration process using information from the National Registration Department. - Mkini
