KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police detained 42 bookies and punters, including three women, involved in an illegal betting ring on World Cup 2018 matches.
Sabah police chief Ramli Din said police also seized a total of RM210,920 from 31 raids conducted throughout the World Cup period in Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau.
“The suspects, aged between 20 and 60, also included foreigners.
“From our investigations, the district of Penampang recorded the highest seizure of RM127,441 in bets,” he said in a visit to Sabah’s northern Kudat district today.
He said efforts were under way to locate others involved in the illegal betting ring. -FMT
