Malaysia is a democratic country, and as such anyone is welcome to set up a political party, Sabah PKR chairperson Christina Liew said today.
“Anyone can apply to set up a political party and it is up to the Registrar of Societies to approve (the application),” she told reporters after officiating a World Diabetes Day event in Tawau today.
Liew, the Sabah deputy chief minister and state minister of tourism, culture and environment said this in commenting on former foreign minister Anifah Aman’s intention on setting up a new political party in Sabah.
Anifah, the Kimanis MP, quit Umno in September and plans to go on his own, unlike some of his comrades who have switched allegiance to Pakatan Harapan.
