Court proposes Teresa Kok resolve case against Jamal through mediation

Teresa Kok is seeking RM1 million in damages.
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today proposed that Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok resolve the case she filed against Jamal Md Yunos over alleged misuse of Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) funds through mediation.
Counsel K Murali, who represented Kok in the case, also told the reporters that judge Ahmad Bache set Jan 10 as the next date “for case management to know the progress made in the mediation process”.
Counsel Mohamad Fauzi Abdul Samad, representing Jamal, also attended the proceedings.
Meanwhile, Fauzi said that if the two parties failed to reach a settlement, the court would hear the case for two days starting April 29 next year.
On April 6, 2017, Kok filed a suit against the Sungai Besar Umno division chief over his defamatory statement relating to Yawas’ funds during a news conference on March 8, 2017.
Kok, in her statement, claimed Jamal’s views were published by the print and electronic media as well as Jamal’s Facebook page.
Kok, who is also Seputeh MP, claimed that the defamatory statement, among others, implied that she had misused state government funds to her own benefit and that she was an unethical person.

She is seeking RM1 million in general damages, compensatory damages, aggravated damages and exemplary damages, and an injunction to prevent Jamal from making such claims in future. - FMT
