Disaster averted for bride-to-be after EC steps in

When the Cameron Highlands by-election was announced two days ago, a bride-to-be was struck by panic and despair after realising that the hall she had booked for her wedding was to be used as a voting centre.
In a post on the Election Commission's Facebook page two days ago, one Syazleen Anisa Misria wrote that she had booked the SMK Sultan Ahmad Shah hall in Tanah Rata six months ago and she was at a loss on what to do.
"Everything from A to Z has been booked for the wedding on Jan 26. Due to your last minute announcement, my family and I are panicking and struggling to figure out how I will have my wedding.
"Invitation cards have been sent out. Money has been spent [...] I can't change my wedding date at the last minute because it's not easy to switch dates with the photographer, videographer, wedding planner, make-up artist, wedding planner, catering and tents, among others.
"Why must you make things difficult for me with this last minute announcement? Why did you pick the same date as my wedding? I am sad," she wrote.
This was met with an immediate reply by the handler of the EC Facebook page who sought Syazleen's contact details to discuss the matter further.
This evening, Syazleen replied to her earlier Facebook post and said she had indeed been contacted by the EC and that her wedding has been brought forward by a week.
"The EC said they will (provide me with some) contribution over the problems that have arisen [...] my gratitude to the EC for helping me.
"I hope the by-election is held successfully. Please pray that my wedding will go on smoothly (as well)," she wrote.
When contacted, EC chairperson Azhar Azizan Harun said the matter was being sorted but declined to divulge details.
In a development unrelated to Syazleen's wedding, Azhar announced that SMK Sultan Ahmad Shah will serve as the nomination centre, main tally centre and polling centre.
"The change was made after considering comfort and safety issues," said Azhar in a statement this evening.  - Mkini
