Former Sekong rep Samsudin Yahya quits Umno

KOTA KINABALU: Former Umno assemblyman for Sekong Datuk Samsudin Yahya has quit the party, bringing with him 55 leaders and members from the Batu Sapi division.

He said he and his comrades have yet to decide on their political future, but quit Umno due to several factors including their lack of confidence in the party's current direction.

Samsudin, who was also former Batu Sapi Umno division chief, said they also lost confidence in Batu Sapi Umno members who have failed to help and serve the rakyat.

"I have served in this party for 27 years and today decide to leave with the hope of greener pastures," he said.

.He said he and his comrades felt that there should be a party that can help and serve the people and fight for the rights of the natives.

However, he said they still think highly of Sabah Umno liason chief Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and would follow him if he decides to change his political path.

"We also support Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad," Samsudin said.

In GE14, Samsudin failed to defend his Sekong seat and lost to Warisan's Arifin Asgali.- Star
