KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno Youth has blamed Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the recent exodus from the party, saying a lack of direction has left members in disarray.
The wing’s vice-chief Ghazalie Ansing also accused the Umno president, who is facing charges of corruption and criminal breach of trust, of using the party as “a shield to save himself”.
“The president doesn’t have command and respect among the leaders and members in Umno,” Ghazalie said in a statement, a day after more than 30 Umno MPs, assemblymen, senators and division leaders in Sabah quit the party.
He said Zahid should resign immediately.
“If he refuses to, I request that the Supreme Council make this happen as soon as possible so our party can move forward,” said the Tawau Umno Youth chief.
Ghazalie Ansing.
Ghazalie also hit out at the Umno leaders who quit the party yesterday.
“They were the ones who taught us to fight and protect the Bumiputera, but now they have abandoned the struggle,” he said.
