KUALA LUMPUR: The energy, science, technology, environment and climate change ministry today set out conditions for any future renewal of rare earths miner Lynas Corp’s licences to operate in the country.
The ministry said in a statement that Lynas must remove radioactive residues from Malaysia and will need to submit an action plan for non-radioactive waste disposal for future licences or permission renewals.
In a report issued on the ministry’s website, a committee commissioned to review Lynas’ processing plant also recommended improvements to residue management, periodic health monitoring and studies to identify the source of heavy metals in areas near the plant. -FMT
