Home Minister: Thanks to budget allocation, we can fix Pulapol issues

Home Affairs Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today that the issues plaguing the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) will be looked into and can easily be fixed once Budget 2019 is approved.
"We lack the budget and money to do improvements to the toilets and lifts... those are the problems a lot of the staff are facing there.
"But I must thank the Finance Minister for Budget 2019, as they have given us a substantial amount of money to fix all these issues in Pulapol, like the lifts and toilets.
"I think we can do something about it, but we have to wait until the budget is approved," Muhyiddin told a press conference at the Bersatu headquarters today.
Yesterday, two DAP lawmakers, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng and Kampar MP Thomas Su highlighted issues affecting Pulapol, like spoilt food, unusable toilets and broken lifts.
Muhyiddin advised the two lawmakers to come directly to him with these complaints in the future, as they are "friends," and promised that the conditions at the centre would be improved upon.
"We have taken not, and I have told my officer to go down and meet those people to see what can be done," he said.
Size doesn't matter
At the press conference, Muhyiddin also dismissed the importance of crowd size at last Saturday's rally against the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd).
"The police estimated 60,000 to 70,000 people, but some people may say it is not right. These estimates do not mean much.
"We should recognise that the numbers are reasonably big, but the exact number? God knows," he said.
With regards to the presence of children at the rally, Muhyiddin said the organisers have been called in by the police to explain this.
The minister added, however, that the police do not want to make a big issue out of this as the situation had blown over, and that they only want to send a warning that it is not right to bring children to rallies.
Last Saturday, tens of thousands of people flocked to the streets in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the government's decision not to ratify Icerd.
The rally was organised by several Muslim NGOs and supported by PAS and Umno. - Mkini
