Tebing Tinggi assemblyperson Abdul Aziz Bari today gave his statement to the Perak branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in a probe over an alleged attempt to depose Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Abdul Aziz, who is the State Education, Technology, Science, Environment and Information exco was questioned by the Perak MACC for some two hours today, said his media officer Shukrie Ibrahim.
MACC (operations) deputy chief commissioner Azam Baki when contacted by Astro Awani today said he was informed that the Perak MACC had opened an investigation paper and would investigate the matter.
“We have to record statements of witnesses and the investigating officer had told him that he would call YB Abdul Aziz Bari as soon as possible to get an explanation from him,” said Azam.
Yesterday, Abdul Aziz denied he was behind the plot to topple the menteri besar through a no confidence vote and described the allegations levelled against him by the opposition leader Saarani Mohamad as a ‘cartoon story’.
Saarani had alleged that Abdul Aziz had met five Umno state assemblymen to solicit for their support to unseat Ahmad Faizal.
Today, outside the 14th Perak State Legislative Assembly, Saarani said he was not concocting stories, but had the statutory declarations from the five BN assemblypersons who were approached by the Tebing Tinggi assemblyperson.
