“Kudos to Anwar for refusing to allow covetous scheming for power for himself and his party to over-ride the cause of reforms. His principled rejection of Umno defectors should earn the applause of the nation.
At this early stage of Harapan’s reign, the government should concentrate its full energy to implement the promised reforms speedily and fully, and the free influx of the Umno frogs to the coalition would only impede such efforts.
Besides, it would be a grand betrayal of the electorate who had overwhelmingly voted Harapan to power precisely because they wanted to rid the country of the abominable rule of Umno. Additionally, Harapan’s credibility would be gravely dented.
For this reason, the Pakatan Harapan leadership must deliberate seriously on the impending anticipated mass migration of Umno elected legislative representatives to Bersatu, and make a collective stand on the issue.
A moratorium of such intake for one year is the minimum to protect Harapan’s image and to avoid hindrance to its reform agenda.”
