There is no need for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, said PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.
Instead, he said the police should be allowed to investigate the murder.
"At this stage, there's no need for an RCI. We just hope the police will act fairly and urgently so that justice delivered to the deceased and his family. That is more important.
"We don't want any political interference in this case or efforts to slow down the investigation.
"This case involves human life, and these things should not happen," he told the media in Kota Bharu today.
An RCI on Adib's death was mooted by, among others, Bagan Datok MP Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The 24-year old firefighter was part of the Fire and Rescue Department team deployed in response to vehicles being torched by rioters outside the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25 in Selangor on Nov 27.
According to the police, he was dragged out of the vehicle and assaulted.
Adib succumbed to his injuries at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur on Monday night. - Mkini
