The move to close Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) earlier starting next year, is because only 11 percent of customers come after 7pm.
This was revealed in the second page of the circular regarding the new business hours for UTCs, penned by Treasury secretary-general Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir.
Previously there was a social media uproar after former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak shared the first page of the circular, and criticised the move to close UTCs early.
Najib did not share the second page of the circular, which was instead made public by Syahredzan Johan, the political secretary of Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang.
According to the circular, the move to close UTCs at 7pm instead of 10pm, is to ensure more efficient government spending on the centres, by providing good service instead of wasting time and energy.
It also hoped to resolve issues regarding manpower, operation spending, and overtime pay.
UTCs provide government services such as passport and licence renewals, tax services and others seven-days a week.
Najib, however, said closing it early would only burden the people and that the government might as well close UTCs permanently.
