A Star Media Group assistant manager was today sentenced to 30 months jail and fined RM100,000 or 18 months jail in default by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court after being found guilty of graft.
M Youganesparan, 55, who is attached to the company's editorial department is found guilty of accepting a RM20,000 bribe from Felda Global Ventures Bud former chief executive officer Mohd Mavani Emir Abdullah as an inducement for the MACC to allegedly close its case on Emir.
He was charged with receiving the money from Emir at 9.15pm at Dome Cafe, Vista Power, The Intermark at Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur on May 30 last year.
Sessions judge Madihah Harullah ruled after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case.
She ordered Youganesparan to pay the fine of RM100,000 today.
The judge however allowed a stay of the 30-month jail sentence but increased bail from RM30,000 to RM40,000 following the proposed appeal.
The accused is represented by counsel G Shankar while MACC DPP Abdul Rashid Sulaiman appeared for the prosecution.
