It is becoming very clear that the current President of UMNO, Zahid Hamidi has lost the confidence of most of their elected and appointed Representatives in State Assembly and Parliament. There is already a call that for him to resign immediately and a fresh party polls conducted.
Another factor could be that these Representatives fear that UMNO may be deregistered and that is why they do not want to prolong themselves with a " sinking ship".
UMNO Representatives were selected by their President (President's choice) and most of them actually "buy themselves" to be selected as a candidate at any elections. Some could have been selected for supporting their leader wholeheartedly. That is the reason why the previous cabinet and MPs and ADUNs from UMNO/BN never raised any issues on corruption and money laundering by their leaders, which was the main reason for their defeat at the recently concluded 14th General Elections on 9 May.
If these elected Representatives have any true conscience they should resign, paving a way for a by-election. Since most of them are "opportunist" you can expect them not to do so.
They prefer to "jump ship" to the ruling parties to remain as a Elected or Appointed Representative and expect to get protection against any prosecution that may arise.
UMNO's demise is just around the corner. - Mohd. Kamal Abdullah
