PETALING JAYA: Nuzul Izzah Anwar deserves to take a break from her position as a PKR vice president, cartoonist Zunar said.
Zunar - whose real name is Zulkiflee Anwar Haque - said Nurul Izzah had spent her youth bearing the burden of politics.
"She has been my best friend since 1999, she helped me launch books and sometimes visited me in lock-up," Zunar said.
"Nurul did not have a teenage life, she started bearing the burden of politics since she was in school and continued to carry her father's struggle because he was in prison," he added in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Dec 18).
"Since the start of the Reformasi movement in 1998, she had been travelling to every corner of the world campaigning for her father's release," Zunar added.
He said that even in the country, the Permatang Pauh MP is filled with invitations to lecture, meetings and media interviews.
Her time is also split with invitation briefings for delegates and foreign dignitaries on top of being a Member of Parliament, he said.
"A few months ago at Heathrow Airport, I could see her eyes filled with physical and mental fatigue despite our chatter and jokes," Zunar said.
"She has sacrificed a lot. She needs some time. Get some rest Izzah, there is still a long time for you to get back," Zunar added.
On Monday (Dec 17), Nurul Izzah resigned as the vice -president of PKR and relinquished her appointment as the chair of Penang PKR.
Nurul Izzah said that she would remain a member of the parliamentary backbench committed to reforms.
She also said she would no longer serve the federal government in any capacity. - Star
