ALOR SETAR: A newborn baby boy was found abandoned under a tree by the roadside near a school on Wednesday (July 3) morning.
The baby, who was swaddled in batik cloth in a paper box, was found by one of the guards of SK Darul Hikmah at about 8.30am, some 200m from the school.
The guard said he saw a man leaving the box there at about 5am.
Curious, he went to check on the box later in the morning and found the baby.
The guard then alerted the teachers of the school who called the police and the hospital.
An ambulance from Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) was despatched to the school at about 9.30am.

The baby's umbilical cord was still attached to his body, clipped by a clothes peg.
A member of the staff at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital said the baby had just been born, likely at around 3am.
He said the baby had a fair complexion.
OCPD Kota Setar ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said he could not confirm having received a report of the case.
Normally, in cases of baby dumping, the police would carry out investigations under Section 371 of the Penal Code.- Star
