KUALA LUMPUR: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is in the process of shutting down the unregistered nursery where a four-year-old girl was raped by a 12-year-old boy, says its minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“The unregistered nursery was caring for eight children and Welfare Department officers are now seeing how to care for the best interest of the other children as well as the victim.
“And we are in the process of shutting down the nursery,” she told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby on Wednesday (July 3).
Dr Wan Azizah also said the incident highlighted the need for the ministry to be stricter in monitoring unregistered nurseries across the country.
A 12-year-old boy, apparently influenced by videos he saw on a mobile phone, raped a four-year-old girl cared for by his babysitter mother three times since May.
The doctor, who attended to the four-year-old victim, found a broken hymen and other tears on the girl's private parts.- Star
