The state government's claim that Kelantan is a more Islamic state than the rest of the country is nothing more than syiok sendiri (self-praise), says state Pakatan Harapan chairperson Husam Musa (above).
"This is escapism. In fact, there is nothing more Islamic in Kelantan compared to other states. In terms of attendance at mosques, I look at KL and Selangor and I seee more activity. It's more lively there," said the Senator.
"So the claim that Kelantan is more Islamic is a matter of self-praise," he told the media after launching Kelantan Parents Day 2019 in Kota Bharu today.
He said this in response to a statement by Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob, who was reported as saying that the issue of four teenage girls arrested by the police under the suspicion of stepping on the Quran was a test to Kelantan's strong credentials as an Islamic state.
Ahmad Yakob (below) even claimed that the issue would not be raised if it happened in other states.
Husam stressed that there no measure or key performance indicators (KPI) to prove that Kelantan was more Islamic.
"What is the KPI? If the illegal mines are in Kelantan, this is not Islamic. If logging is rampant in Kelantan, this is not Islamic."
"If other states are less corrupt, but Kelantan is not clean in terms of KPIs, then it is not Islamic," he added.
Husam, who is also Amanah vice president, added that all parties should be realistic about such matters. - Mkini
