Leaked CCTV footage from a well-known hotel in Sandakan raises concerns on privacy and the integrity of police procedures, says former PKR central leadership council member Badrul Hisham Shaharin.
In a statement yesterday, Badrul Hisham said the leaked footage from the hotel suggests that there is a concerted effort to mount an attack on PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.
He said that thus far, the hotel – part of a major international chain – has yet to explain how its CCTV footage made its way online, which compromises customer privacy.
"Customer information and CCTV footage should not be disclosed, as it is compulsory for the hotel to maintain the privacy of the customer," he said.
Badrul Hisham believes that the CCTV footage leak would also suggest that the police investigation into a sex video released on June 12 – purportedly recorded at the said hotel – may have been compromised.
On July 3, a YouTube channel called 'Rahim Jaafar' published a video clip apparently depicting PKR members Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz (photo) and Hilman Idham at the hotel.
The footage appeared to be taken from the hotel's CCTV footage. Free Malaysia Today reported that the hotel was "aware" of the matter, but could not comment further as police investigations are ongoing.
On June 12, a concerted campaign to accuse Azmin of having intimate relations with Haziq took off, with more video clips emerging in the weeks that followed.
Azmin has denied the allegations and accused his enemies of engaging in a nefarious plot to discredit him.
The latest video clip, first published on the Rahim Jaafar YouTube channel, does not show anything explicit, but seems to point to Haziq and Hilman staying on the same floor of the Sandakan hotel.
Hilman is Azmin's political secretary.
Haziq, meanwhile, was sacked as an officer to the deputy primary industries minister in the wake of the scandal, and was expelled from PKR on Wednesday.
In his statement, Badrul Hisham – a prominent figure in PKR until his sacking in 2016 – urged politicians not to indulge in mud-slinging, but instead compete on policies. - Mkini
